SANTEC (headquarters located in Komaki City, Japan), a leading design and manufacturer of tunable lasers, optical instruments, OCT products, and fiber-optic components, has introduced the Ultra-Compact Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) variable optical attenuator (VOA) and the Ultra-Compact Tap-Photodetector (Tap-PD) for 100G+ digital coherent transceivers.
100G+ digital coherent transceivers are rapidly expanding in data center interconnect (DCI) and will be deployed for mobile 5G and IoT communications in the near future. The deployment of small form factor, compact integrations such as CFP, CFP2 and CFP8 have been accelerated in the 100G+ digital coherent transceiver market as well.
The MEMS based VOA (code: COVA) and ultimate tap-photodetector (code: UTP) are optical passive components in transceivers to equalize the optical amplified power and to monitor the optical power respectively. The COVA and UTP are santec’s 3rd generation products, in which superior optical designs and novel automatic production technologies are deployed not only for telecom, but also for data-com markets with our telecom grade quality, proven in the 2nd generation Tap-PD (code: MTP) and MEMS based VOA (code: MOVA) for decade.
Feature of the new products:
Ultra-Compact Tap-PD and VOA,
Products Conventional ratio in santec products
・VOA (COVA) 83% volume reduction
・Tap-PD (UTP) 78% volume reduction
