Sept 24, 2024 - Vancouver, BC , Ronian Siew, an optical consultant in Vancouver, specialized in the design of optical systems for bio-imaging and detection, has published a new book, Modern Classical Optical System Design: Fundamentals, techniques, tips, and tricks (IOP Publishing, 2024).

The book is written especially for early-career designers who are involved in modern product development, where activities are often so fast-paced that engineers find it challenging to acquire knowledge from academic texts. Topics include imaging, elements of lens design, illumination, optical tolerancing, detection, and various tips and tricks for designing optical systems, based on the author's 25-years of experience.

Ronian Siew, author of the book, said, "When I was a fresh graduate, I struggled in transitioning from academia into the real world. So, I would have wished to have a book such as the one I wrote, which helps young designers and engineers get up to speed quickly in using an advanced optical design program to develop optical products in a company."

The book, which is part of the IOP Series in Emerging Technologies in Optics and Photonics (edited by Dr. R. Barry Johnson) is available to purchase through the IOP Publishing Bookstore and on Amazon.

It is also available for loan in many universities.
