Professor Bongsik SONG announced that he has developed an ultra-low loss silicon carbide in cooperation with foreign researchers. This result has opened the opportunity for the application of core devices in ICT such as integrated optical circuit, quantum communication light source and minature IoT sensors.

Silicon Carbide has not been widely used as the material for subminiature optical devices despite its excellent physical characteristics. Prof. SONG developed a low-loss silicon carbide thin film thatis appropriate for use in optical devices and produced a nano optical device much more efficient that the existing devices (FWHM 2.4 pm, 1900%/W).

This research was published in world renowned journal “Optica” on August 21st.
