PITTSBURGH, Jan. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- II‐VI Incorporated (NASDAQ:IIVI), a leader in micro-optics and precision optical coatings, today announced the introduction of its wide incidence angle mirror for light detection and ranging (LiDAR) applications.
The rapid proliferation of autonomous navigation capabilities in automotive, industrial, consumer and military products, including in vehicles and robots, is driving the demand for optical solutions that lower the cost, reduce the size and improve the reliability of LiDAR systems. II-VI’s mirrors enable reflected laser beams within LiDAR systems to maintain optical powers with a very high degree of uniformity over wide incidence angles ranging from 0 to 85 degrees. The new mirrors enable folded laser beam geometries that are used to achieve compact LiDAR designs. The high mirror reflectivity is achieved using proprietary dielectric coating designs that are stable even in extreme operating environments.
“We are excited to introduce what we believe is the first wide incidence angle mirror of its kind on the market,” said Vincent Lin, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, II-VI Photop. “This product leverages our strong intellectual property in dielectric coatings to achieve superior long-term reliability compared to existing enhanced silver or aluminum mirrors.”
II-VI’s wide incidence angle mirrors are designed to maintain up to 99% reflectance over a 200 nm band centered on the laser operating wavelength. They are available to match lasers operating at 905 nm, 940 nm, 1550 nm or other wavelengths, including vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs), edge emitting lasers and fiber lasers.
II-VI will showcase its wide incidence angle mirror at CES 2018, January 9-12, 2018, in Las Vegas, NV, Booth # 2300.
