February 13th 2023, Changchun, China – Gpixel announces a high-speed version of the popular GMAX4002, a 1/1.7” format Global Shutter CMOS image sensor designed around a 4 µm charge domain global shutter pixel with enhanced NIR sensitivity and provides 2048(H) x 1200(V) resolution. The sensor’s increased frame rate makes is ideal for a variety of machine vision tasks including various in-situ optical inspection applications such as PCB and wirebond assembly inspection, 3D inspection applications, motion capture and analysis such as golf swing, various sports, broadcast and entertainment applications and many others.

The high-speed version of the GMAX4002 sensor supports a 50% increase in the data and frame rate achieved by each of the 8 sub-LVDS channels, with an increased bit rate from 800 Mbps to 1200 Mbps per channel in 10-bit mode totaling 9.6 Gbps data rate making it a perfect match for emerging industry standard camera interfaces such as 10GigE. The result is an increase in the full-resolution frame rate to 344 fps, while maintaining over 64 dB of dynamic range and under 3 electrons noise. Further increases in the frame rate can be achieved by selecting a vertical region of interest for read out. The new version of the sensor maintains a peak QE of 72% at 550 nm and still over 37% at 850 nm which is an industry leading NIR response based on Gpixel’s proprietary RedFox technology. Sensitivity can be increased, and frame rate quadrupled to over 680 fps utilizing the sensor’s on-chip, charge-domain 2×2 binning mode.

“We have been pleased with the response to our growing 2MP product family and the GMAX4002 in particular offering our customers a mid-range, cost-effective, versatile option for many applications,” says Wim Wuyts, CCO of Gpixel, “and for applications the normal speed version offers an ideal cost-performance trade off but we were interested to learn that our customers also want to use GMAX4002 as a replacement for older products with higher frame rates, and we have made this possible with the release of this high-speed version.”

The high-speed version of the GMAX4002 is fully pin and footprint compatible with the normal-speed version. Both are packaged in a 74-pin CLCC package with outer dimensions 16.6 mm x 12.9 mm and are available in both Bayer color and monochrome versions.

Together with the GSPRINT4502, a 2/3” global shutter sensor delivering 3460 fps in 8-bit mode, Gpixel offers a wide variety of speeds and price points in the 2 Megapixel imaging category.

GMAX4002 High Speed engineering samples can be ordered today, for delivery in March 2023. Evaluation kits are also available. For more information, please contact us at info@gpixel.com.
