SAN DIEGO, CA and HAIFA, ISRAEL, Oct. 16, 2017 — Everysight, the makers of the soon-to-be released Raptor AR Smartglasses (Raptor), selected the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410E embedded platform, a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., to power its flagship product. The Snapdragon 410E embedded platform was included on the Raptor using a custom board developed by eInfochips. Raptors are the first announced consumer focused augmented reality smartglasses aimed at fitness and are designed to provide cyclists, triathletes, and early adopters with a competitive advantage that enhances training by providing them with the real-time information they need to transform into faster, fitter, and more efficient riders.
The Snapdragon 410E embedded platform provides Raptor with the compute capabilities necessary to display real time data such as route navigation, time, distance, speed, heart rate, cadence and power through on-lens projection displays. The device features a multimedia display with rich-full graphics and overall low power consumption, allowing for up to 8 hours of usage per charge. The Snapdragon 410E embedded platform also enables Raptor to integrate various wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi® and ANT+Bluetooth®, allowing the smartglass to interface with the cloud as well as multiple wireless sensors using different types of protocols.
“Everysight spun out of Elbit Systems, a defense technology company specializing in Helmet Mounted Systems for fighter jet pilots, so we have been working on consumer AR displays for a dozen years. One of the biggest challenges in bringing AR technology to consumers was form factor, and the Snapdragon 410E embedded platform provided us with a tiny but mighty platform, small enough to fit in a pair of glasses, powerful enough to run our software,” said Asaf Ashkenazi, CEO, Everysight.
“It is amazing to see how the technologies that bring life to smartphones are now revolutionizing sports experiences through exciting devices such as the Raptor AR smartglasses,” said Jeffery Torrance, vice president, business development, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We are pleased that our connectivity and edge compute technologies in Snapdragon 410E embedded platform allowed Everysight to realize their vision for the future of Outdoor AR.”
Everysight’s patented BEAM™ technology gives the Raptor a true AR experience using a transparent see-through display that overlays sharp, high-resolution information into the user’s line of sight, while reducing eyestrain and keeping a rider’s vision clear. The information appears as a projection out in front of the user rather than delivering information with an object or element located around the eye area that obscures the rider’s vision, like other competitive products.
Raptor's Workout mode POV
Riders may choose to use a controller located on their handlebars, voice command or a simple swipe and touch pad located on the temples of the Raptor to control functions including maps, volume, brightness, communication and more. A look-and-shoot camera captures high definition video that can be uploaded and analyzed post-ride. Videos can also be shared with friends and followers through social media channels. The Raptor pairs with external sensors to capture additional data. All captured information (heart rate, cadence, speed, power, etc.) uploads to Raptor’s companion app (Android and iOS), and can be shared through social media channels or synced to popular third-party fitness and cycling apps.
