TAIPEI, TAIWAN
The new Acer Aspire R7 notebook that redefines the touch and type computing experience has captured two prestigious awards for outstanding design – the 2013 Red Dot and Computex d&i. In both instances the R7 was evaluated by a jury comprised of international design experts that bestowed the notebook with their seal of approval.
“The Aspire R7 is a fine example of our constant endeavor to create products that enable consumers to explore beyond their limits and achieve more than ever,” said Michael Birkin, Chief Marketing Officer of Acer. “We are pleased that the award organizers recognized the R7 for its innovative design which features multiple modes of operation and essentially elevates the computing experience for consumers to an all new level.” (See Aspire R7 design video)
The Red Dot Awards
The Red Dot of Germany is a seal of quality recognized worldwide. This year’s jury of design experts included fashion designer Jimmy Choo for the first time. The R7 stood out from among 4,662 entries in 19 categories to receive the “red dot award: product design 2013,” in the computers and information technology category. The Red Dot stands for aesthetic forms, well thought-out innovations and groundbreaking trends. The judging process is based on different assessment criteria, such as functionality, degree of innovation, or symbolic and emotional content, and also takes intercultural aspects of design into evaluation.
Computex d&i Awards
Judged by experts and renowned designers from the ICT industry, the Computex d&i awards is organized in partnership with iF (International Forum Design GmbH), the reputed institution for industrial design in Germany, and received 254 entries from 7 countries this year. The Aspire R7 was chosen from the gaming and entertaining products category in the sixth annual d&i awards which evaluated the entries on the criteria, including craftsmanship, choice of materials, environmental friendliness, functionality, utility value, safety, ergonomics, universal design and product identity/branding.
Premium Design and Premium Sound
Unveiled last week to the press in New York, the Aspire R7 is a revolutionary notebook featuring a 15.6-inch full HD 1920x1080 touch screen made for the new computing lifestyle, which increasingly combines touching and typing. With a repositioned keyboard and a revolutionary Ezel™ hinge that moves the display forward and into different positions, it makes the combination of touching the screen and using the keyboard more intuitive and natural.
Consumers can transform this notebook into the shape that best delivers an immersive content experience based on their usage needs. With four modes of operation, the R7 can easily be used as a traditional notebook, a table top pad, a display, or switched into “Ezel™” mode, allowing the screen to float over the keyboard at various angles. This allows users to work where they want and how they want — seated or standing, at a desk or on their lap. The Ezel™ hinge makes it easy to switch the display around, to touch or type while creating, browsing or sharing content. Dual hinge technology allows for single-hand switching between modes and keeps the display rock-steady when touched.
Offering a superior audio visual experience, the R7’s powerful features and high-definition display are complemented by a premium sound system with Dolby Home Theater and four speakers. Because of its transformative design, the audio channels automatically reverse when switching modes, so stereo sound is always perfect.
Award Ceremony and Exhibition
The Aspire R7 will first be exhibited at the d&i awards pavilion during Computex Taipei from June 4~8, 2013, then go on tour to be displayed at other ICT exhibitions including CeBIT Hannover, CES Las Vegas, GITEX Dubai and IFA Berlin.
The Red Dot award ceremony will take place on July 1, 2013 in Germany. Following the ceremony, the R7 will be showcased at the Red Dot design museum for a special four-week exhibition, and online at www.red-dot.de.
