PITTSBURGH, Jan. 27, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The II-VI Photop Group of II-VI Incorporated (NASDAQ:IIVI), a leading provider of solutions for industrial fiber lasers, today announced the commercial availability of its acousto-optic modulators designed for pulsed fiber lasers operating at 1 micron wavelength.
Pulsed fiber lasers are critical to enable cost-effective, energy-efficient and low-maintenance industrial tools for precision marking and deep engraving applications. II-VI Photop is introducing to the market cost-effective acousto-optic modulators with low insertion loss that enable the pulsed operation of these lasers.
“Our new acousto-optic modulator is a significant addition to II-VI’s existing portfolio of fiber laser components, including high power pump lasers, pump laser combiners and seed lasers,” said Vincent Lin, Director for Sales and Marketing, II-VI Photop. “We are excited to see the growing demand for our acousto-optic modulator and we are now focused on ramping up production.”
When placed in a laser cavity, an acousto-optic modulator periodically interrupts and resumes lasing activity to enable the build-up and release of laser energy within short pulses. The II-VI Photop acousto-optic modulators are currently available at radio frequencies of 100 and 120 MHz for fiber lasers operating at 1 micron wavelength. Upon request, they can be customized for other radio frequencies and wavelengths, including at 2 microns and in the visible spectrum.
