BT to Headline ECOC Exhibition’s Market Focus

Next month’s ECOC (European Conference on Optical Communications) 2013 exhibition, will play host to the Market Focus theatre and see a record number of speakers from leading industry companies such as BT and ViaSat. The exhibition will be held on September 23 to 25 at the ICC London ExCeL.

Now in its eighth successful year the Market Focus, sponsored by Oclaro, will for the first time host, 29 sessions over three days and be divided into five main topic areas – Mass Market Broadband, High Speed Optical Transmission, Data Centre Networks, Optical Network Agility and Optical Integration.

First time companies and organisations set to speak at the Market Focus include Acreo Swedish ICT, ClariPHY, Ethernet Alliance, Acacia, ViaSat, Discerning Analytics, LLC, Avago, Juniper, Woodside Capital Partners and Coriant R&D GmbH, Mode-Gap. The FTTH Council Europe, JDSU, Ovum and Molex are also set to make a return.

“This year we wanted the Market Focus to attract a variety of speakers to reflect the growing spectrum of the optical communications industry,” said Beverley Lucas, Group Event Manager for Nexus Business Media Ltd, organisers of the ECOC exhibition. “We are thrilled to welcome back BT as an industry speaker and are excited to fit a whole lot more into the programme and announce a truly world class line-up of presentations.”

The opening Market Focus session will take place on Monday 23 September at 10:50am and will be presented by Nadia Baballi from The FTTH Council Europe titled; There will be winners and losers in Europe's race for FTTH leadership. Presentations from Acreo Swedish ICT, Ovum, Tellabs, ClariPHY, Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF), Ethernet Alliance, Fujitsu Network Communications and Acacia will also take place throughout the day. ViaSat will deliver the final session of the day at 4:15pm about Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) for next generation 400 Gbps and 1 Tbps Optical Transport Networks (OTN).

Day two will host the Data Centre Networks session at 10.20am with a kick-off presentation from Lisa Huff of Discerning Analytics, LLC, discussing Optics in the Data Centre. Presentations from Avago and Inphi will follow and Molex will end the morning sessions.

BT’s Chris Bilton will take centre stage in the afternoon to discuss how both SDN and NfV can transform the fragmented network, by (i) orchestrating network operations across multiple organisations and vendors and (ii) virtualising many of the higher layer network functions in commodity hardware. Other companies to speak that afternoon include OIF, Verizon, Oclaro, JDSU, Infinera, Verizon and Juniper.

The Market Focus finale on Wednesday morning will address Optical Integration and start at 10.20am and include Woodside Capital Partners, NTT Electronics America, Neophotonics, Oclaro, JDSU, Ethernet Alliance and will be wrapped up with a presentation from Coriant R&D GmbH, Mode-Gap at 2.00pm about Multi-mode SDM systems: upgrade scenario for legacy systems and achievable system cost.

“With increased stand holders and the biggest line up of Market Focus speakers to date, London is set to host an incredible ECOC Exhibition,” added Beverley.
