LITTLE ROCK, AR, February 2, 2015 – Power Technology, Inc., a leader in the photonics Industry for over 45 years, announced today that it has developed a new high power laser for analytical, research, 3D printing and machine vision applications. Appropriately dubbed the “Grande”, the laser adds to an already broad offering by the company. While most lasers offer milliwatt power levels, the Grande goes as high as 20 watts.

“The Grande laser allows us to serve more customers who want higher power lasers. Many new applications like 3D printing and additive manufacturing need more optical power than we previously provided. Additional lower power materials processing applications may also benefit from this new product,” said Walter Burgess, Vice President of Engineering for Power Technology.

The Grande laser is configurable for up to 20 Watts of optical power for demanding applications that require high outputs. Controlled by an internal micro-processor, the design features an LCD display, which provides users safety status as well as real time information on power current settings and internal temperature. Drive current and bias settings are user controllable with 12 bits of resolution (4096 steps). The Grande features passive cooling for the circuitry and laser. Input to the module is typically 5 VDC, while blue and green lasers require 8VDC.

Power Technology, Inc., established in 1969, is a leading designer and manufacturer of laser diode products for OEM analytical, biomedical, industrial, semiconductor inspection, defense & security, and machine vision applications.
