SANTEC, a leading design and manufacturer of tunable lasers, optical instruments, OCT products, and fiber-optic components, has introduced a super-flatness of λ/40 @633nm using wavefront correction technology in an SLM (spatial light modulator) based on LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) device. The SLM’s advanced high resolution of 10-bits (1024 gray level) is applied to compensate for the intrinsic spatial optical distortion and aberration in the LCOS device using a LUT (Look-up-Table). The wavefront correction technology is available for several SLM-100 models in optional visible wavelength. It was difficult to achieve the super-flatness in a conventional SLM, since the SLM has a resolution of 8-bits (256 gray level) for coarse tuning.
Super-flatness in an SLM is a very important feature in various industrial applications such as astrophysics, precision holography and laser processing to achieve ideal optical performance on the image plane.
The super-flat SLM-100 will be showcased at the BIOS / Photonics West 2017 in San Francisco, 28 January to 2 February 2017, at SANTEC’s booth #8518 / #322.
