Santa Clara, CA – January 26, 2016 – Spectra-Physics® introduces femtoTrain™ 1040-5, a compact, fixed wavelength, femtosecond laser that deliver high energies and peak powers. The new laser offers <220 fs pulse widths, >0.5 µJ pulse energies, and >2 MW peak powers, making it an ideal source for medical and bio-imaging applications, including optogenetics for photoactivation.

“Delivering exceptional femtosecond performance from a compact, proven industrial platform, femtoTrain 1040-5 is perfect for sensitive applications that thrive on high peak powers, including optogenetics and microsurgery,” says Tommi Hakulinen, product manager at Spectra-Physics Rankweil. “The new laser is a significant addition to our market-leading portfolio of ultrafast lasers for bio-imaging and medical applications.”

The femtoTrain platform provides excellent beam quality, low noise and outstanding long-term stability. femtoTrain 1040-5 outputs >5 W at 10 MHz repetition rate in the infrared at 1040 nm. The laser is equipped with long-life diodes and an ultra-stable sealed optical cavity design for high reliability and low cost of ownership.

Spectra-Physics’ femtoTrain 1040-5 laser will be featured at SPIE Photonics West, Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, February 16-18, 2016. Please visit Spectra-Physics at booth #1400 for a demonstration. For more information, please see www.spectra-physics.com/femtoTrain.
