Champlin, Minnesota: Prima Power Laserdyne’s SmartSense™ improves the positioning precision of laser processed features on both precise and imprecise workpieces. This enables laser processing to be used with lower cost, less precise parts and tooling.

Here’s how SmartSense operates in a LASERDYNE multi-axis laser system: The high precision, laser-based sensor locates the actual position of metal and non-metal surfaces with 2.5µm resolution.  When combined with field proven LASERDYNE S94P software for collecting and analyzing data from the sensor, SmartSense provides a tool for precision laser processing even with parts and tooling that are not precise.

SmartSense coordinates with OFC2 Absolute™, another exclusive LASERDYNE feature, which locates the actual position of reference features, such as edges, corners and holes without contacting the workpiece. The impact on productivity is faster and simpler processing than manual and semi-automated techniques. The fully integrated hardware and software solution allows for automated feature finding processes. It provides high accuracy sensing and measurement with much greater standoff distance than with capacitance sensors, allowing high speed moves to be used with confidence.

Another important SmartSense feature is that it is applicable for all laser processes including cutting, welding and drilling. Smart Sense is another of several recently introduced Laserdyne “SmartTechniques™” that are exclusive and proprietary new features of the LASERDYNE product line. SmartTechniques lead to laser processes with capabilities never before demonstrated.

“Our goal at Prima Power Laserdyne is to continue to produce advancements like SmartSense that help make our customers realize greater benefit from laser processing which ultimately helps them to be more successful.” stated Terry L. VanderWert, president of Prima Power Laserdyne.
