With increased production capacities in the ultra-precision field, asphericon is able to produce customer-specific plastic aspheres with a high shape accuracy and thus with minimized aberrations. The state-of-the-art diamond turning machines manufactured by Moore enable substrate diameters of 1 to 350mm to be processed, with shape accuracy of up to 100nm (peak to valley) and surface finishes of 1nm.

"Overall, we are very happy with the speed with which our employees have been able to translate the new production processes into readiness for series production," reports CEO Alexander W. Zschäbitz. "The first deliveries and feedback from our customers give us a very good feeling that we can also offer diamond-turned PMMA aspheres in the usual first-class asphericon quality, in addition to the classic CNC processing of glass surfaces."

Besides the pure investment in machinery, the central aim was also to integrate the internal measuring technology. Full-surface interferometric measurements without using CGHs and up to a diameter of 420mm are now common practice. The first-class documentation of production results also completes the value creation chain at asphericon, which now extends from design creation and the preparation of laboratory tests, through to the actual manufacturing and assembly.
